Sir MVIT was established in 1986 by Sri Krishnadevaraya Educational Trust. The campus of the college spreads over an area of 133 acres of land. The college is accredited by NAAC and NBA. Sir MVIT is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi and approved by AICTE. Sir MVIT is an ISO 9001:2008 Certified Institution. The college also has many clubs and committees like LEO Club, ECO Club, Entrepreneurship Cell, Riposte Dance Club, etc.

Sir MVIT offers admissions to the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The programmes offered for Sir MVIT admissions are B.E, B.E Lateral Entry, M.Tech, M.B.A and M.C.A. For B.E programme admission, candidates can apply either through COMEDK UGET or KCET. After the release of cutoff and rank, qualified candidates have to appear for COMEDK UGET/KCET counselling. As per the Sir MVIT admission process for the PG programme through Karnataka PGCET, candidates have to meet the cutoff after the declaration of the result. For M.Tech programme admission, candidates can also apply through GATE. Shortlisted candidates have to appear for Karnataka PGCET counselling. The last step of the Sir MVIT admission procedure is the submission of documents and payment of fees.

Sir MVIT has a training and placement cell. The Sir MVIT placement cell helps the final year students in the placement and also imparts necessary skills to the students. Training on personality development, soft skills, etc are imparted. Sir MVIT placement training also involves seminars, workshops, guest lectures, industrial visits, group discussions, personal interview, etc. The recruiters are invited to the campus for the placement of the students. Several recruiters of the college are TCS, Cisco, Akamai, Amazon, Wipro, Capgemini, NTT Data, Infosys, etc. As per the Sir MVIT placement statistics for UG and PG programmes, out of 886 eligible candidates, 422 have been placed in the year 2020. According to the college placement statistics, Rs. 4,34,000 is the highest median salary offered to the 4 year UG programme students in the year 2020.
